Would the requirement of a DNA paternity test for every birth create a change in women’s sexual behavior?

“Men should have the right to decline paternity in cases of unintended conception in the same way women have had that right for over thirty years. To support men’s family planning rights Matt Dubay is courageously taking on the Michigan Family Court in the effort to take control of his reproductive rights.” (www.nationalcenterformen.org – March 25, 2008)

In principle, men should not be forced to parent a child they do not want. But, because of the unbalanced social norms of how men and women relate to babies, men will continue to be required by law “to parent a child” in unintended pregnancy cases. The majority persist that if men do not want children they ought to use a condom, undergo a vasectomy or create a legal agreement at the start of a relationship with his (new) partner as to what they will both do about an “unintended pregnancy.” (A handful of women really believe that men have 50% control in whether his partner becomes pregnant (unintentionally.)

First, establishing a legal agreement between partners is easier said than done. In the United States State and Federal family court systems there is “no legal precedence or court recognition for hypothetical legal agreements between partners.”

Second, although there is such a thing as a vasectomy reversal operation, this procedure is only 57% effective, is quite expensive and is rarely (if never) covered by insurance.

Lastly, there is the condom dispute. Condoms are used mostly when people change partners, are in a new relationship; and seldom used when couples are in a trusted/marital relationship. When someone is in a relationship for a couple of years, we’d imagine that couples have established a mature, trusting relationship with their wife so that men would not have to worry about fatherhood, and could rely on his partner to take the pill until they have both communicated with understanding and agreement about extending or starting a family. (Men do not have the pill option.)

Condoms’ is the one contraceptive method for men and oftentimes a poor method. Condoms break even when it’s used correctly. Condoms also have a failure rate of 15%, which means that for every one hundred couples using condoms correctly (and most do not) 15% “unintended pregnancies” will occur. The failure rate for imperfect condom use increases to 20%, which is as effective as the withdrawal method.

When this happens, you often hear women (and public advocates) claim that “men decline paternity time and again and women get struck with the child.” In truth, men in the United cannot legally refuse paternity allegations even if they want to. And still, women are legally afforded unlimited opportunities to decline paternity while pregnant and after the child is born.

However, if he chooses to deny paternity he will very likely receive a summons to appear in court, forced to submit to DNA testing and further forced to accept paternity of an unintended conception. This obligation includes but is not limited to child support payments, which is approximately 17% of his income, and in most states in this country. The percentage is higher of course, depending on the income of both parents, the cost for day care, medical expenses, and the child’s education if the mother decides to enroll the child in a private school. As well, and in most states, once the biological father is determined in court, he is held responsible for 100% of the medical birthing costs if the mother is uninsured at the time of labor. That’s the law. Yet, people (and certain organizations) are quick to judge and classify men as deadbeats. The child support enforcement agency is a pitiful state agency. They are the ones who jump at men and probably the ones who started the deadbeat dad epidemic in the United States. In truth, there isn’t an epidemic of deadbeat fathers who abandon their children or deny support. The epidemic lies between the child support enforcement agencies and the family court’s unfair, unrealistic and financially crippling requirements of fathers.

(A man can be declared the father of a child if the biological father cannot be found; despite the fact that this means the mother’s having sex with someone else. To child support agencies, their concern is that “a man” pays for the child and the Court of (family) Law is mainly concerned about the Federal dollars on child support.)

Abandonment legislation was passed in most states because of the high rate of infanticide during the early 1980s. (www.pbs.org) Abandonment legislation legally permits a mother to anonymously abandon her newborn baby at police stations, fire stations and in some states, at the public library. In the United States, a mother isn’t required to notify, discuss or ask permission from the child’s biological father if she makes the decision to abandon “his” child.

Women in the United States are never left stuck with a child. Women choose to bring her unborn child to full term accepting legal paternal responsibilities. Women in this country are never forced with legal paternity, at least not in the last thirty years. However, forced parenthood happens to hundreds of men all the time, every day.

Also in the United States, women rarely, if ever, have to go through such lengths as men must to ensure against unintended paternity. Perhaps this is the reason why 70% of all annual pregnancies in this country are unintended. Compare this to the failure rate of the most popular pill method for women, and is 99% effective.

What century are we living in? Are men not entitled to enjoy really effective male contraceptives as much as women have been enjoying, while in the same breath having the option to select the best contraceptive on the market for her? Are men not entitled to have, at minimum, the same legal paternity rights as women have had for so many years?

“Justice delayed is (truly) justice denied, and slavery by any other name is still slavery. Women have reproductive rights. Men have reproductive responsibilities.”

CORNERSTONE
Charlie Chaplin was a victim of paternity fraud in the 1940s. The British film actor was prosecuted in 1944 by Federal authorities for “Mann Act” charges. Although Chaplin was eventually acquitted of the paternity fraud charges the trial not only destroyed his public image in the United States, but because of the high profile case, despite the acquittal, Chaplin had to depart for Switzerland in the 1950s.

It’s about 60 years since the Chaplin case and today, paternity fraud is a bigger problem than in the 1940s, and despite DNA testing.

Is your child’s Internet use affecting his or her school performance, health, relationships with family and friends?

As indicated by the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School Center for the Digital future, over 1/3 of parents believe that the Internet is affecting their children’s offline activities, and the number of concerned parents is rapidly rising.

While the Internet creates interest and excitement, is a great invention and effective for immeasurable projects, the Internet can also take away children’s productive time, especially when parents recognize that their kids’ school life and their social networking events are both happening online. It is however, the parents’ responsibility to keep an eye on their kids’ time online and introduce them to activities away from the computer screen during the day and week. Parents working together to help their kids to balance time online and offline is important because, kids really need balance, to engage in language skills, outdoor activities, exercising, spending time with family and friends, doing chores around the house to help them to develop healthy bodies and minds.

There is however, a minority of parents who have rules that limit their kids’ time online, with the exception of their homework during the week. Parents who are focused on their children not only keep the computer in a common family room and regularly converse with their children about what they are working on in the Internet, but they know that language skills are more important and are best developed through reading and interaction with others in conversation and play activities, and in the healthy development of social, emotional and intellectual skills. These parents also understand that more than 3 hours a day of online activity will only make risk-taking and social relationships in the future difficult for their kids.

What we may need are more role model parents, who know how to listen carefully and pay special attention to their kids’ online activity, manage the amount of time they spend online and teach their children how to prioritize what projects they need to get done for school online. Setting time limits also encourages kids and parents to find other constructive ways to share human interaction with their peers and family.

Moreover, present studies and trends show that because more schools require students to do their homework online while implementing a digital curriculum, the Internet will inevitably replace television viewing which means that parents need to communicate and manage their kids’ time online.

When children elect an Internet life as opposed to real life – social skills and creative activities – it’s time for parents to step in and punch the computer button off. Parents know best, that not only is moderation is a positive element and, but especially that there is much more for kids to experience in life than the Internet.

Do you believe that machismo oriented characters may be a personality sort that can put up with rape and/or sexual exploitation of women with no difficulty?

“Early in their investigation into the kidnapping and slaying of a young college woman, Reno police were convinced the suspect they described as a serial rapist was a chameleon who blended in with a community grief-stricken over the loss of Brianna Denison.

“Likely, James Michael Biela, a former marine who trained in martial arts at a academy frequented by law enforcement officers looks like somebody you would least suspect, but that is the person who is responsible for this crime,” Deputy Police Chief Jim Johns said in February, a day after Denison’s body was found.” (Associated Press, November 27, 2008, Reno, Nevada)

For more than ten years, behavioral researchers have alleged, “most guys simply become momentarily wacky. During those brief moments of wackiness, they become excited by the wrong stimulant.” (The American Journal of Forensic Medicine and Pathology – March 2008) Behavioral researchers also believe that the bad attitude of some guys derives from their feelings of inadequacy and powerlessness toward women. Between the voices heard from a group of feminists who believe that guys who rape are profoundly angry at women and those behavioral researchers' studies, will we ever really know the real reasons why some guys rape?

Back in 1998, an established writer at the Psychology Today magazine conducted a psychological study on this topic and discovered that "seventy-five percent of males admitted having used drugs and/or alcohol to get what they wanted from women. Sixty-nine percent admitted using some form of manipulation. Forty percent used anger and thirteen percent had threatened force." (This Psychology Today article may have succeeded its study because those guys who volunteered to be part of the research study willingly admitted their devious tactics.)

It may be fair to suggest that most people, women and men, would agree that whenever a guy exhibits an intense interest in x-rated, sexual exploitation of women, they possess an unfeeling quality toward women, and therefore those twisted personalities willingly accept and permit to push them to the point where they actually believe that violence against women in any form is masculine and dangerous risks motivate them to play out their twisted fantasies. These ill-spirited guys are the ones who methodically and continually use sleazy tactics to seduce women into having sex with them.

Nowadays, (unlike ten years ago when the Psychology Today's article was published) guys rarely admit to anything and while behind the mask practice their unscrupulous methods of manipulation in private while "appearing normal" in the public's eyes. In the same vein, these "twisted minds" feign insecurity, seduction and charm to intimidate someone into believing they are in the presence of a decent and normal person.

Generally, when they become comfortable and secure that they have gained your trust they will remove the mask. Hence, they will begin to whine in emotional tones about how they suffer from anxiety and fear of women, relationships, intimacy. These same guys are frequently depicted by psychologists as aggressive macho males who feel aroused while watching pornographic movies as opposed to human interaction.

Still, a smooth talking guy can only convince you of something if you want to believe what he is saying. And the more you want to believe him, the less convincing he needs to be. Without your willingness to ignore common sense on your part, even the smoothest con artist has no power and no chance to harm you. The end result depends on his character, attitude, opinion and assessment of you.

In reality, most of us do not consider that oftentimes potential rapists are guys with whom we share part of our lives with; and knowing this, women ought to exercise the power of their intuition and trust their instincts when defining the "psychological macho male." Then, separate him from real men with whom you can communicate specifically what it is you want (and do not want) or need in your life.

Do you believe mothers ought to be held to the same standards as fathers when they are involved in child custody and divorce cases? Does the legal system have a major flaw whenever acting as a go-between custody and divorce cases?

During the decade some divorced fathers have been known to spend over $15,000 in attorney fees and court costs because the former wife refuses to comply with court orders, denies visitation at random, excludes him from medical decisions, school meetings and speaks ill of him to the children. Despite that he may do everything humanly possible to maintain a decent relationship with his children, the ongoing battles and frustration can, at times, become overwhelming.

Realistically, the percentage of fathers unfairly treated in the court system is high, therefore, (perhaps inadvertently) giving men in custody and divorce cases the impression that the court system is anti-family union and pro break-ups, dividing the family, custodial parent and non-custodial parent so that the State can receive huge incentives from families.

Fathers ought to have equal rights to be involved in the daily lives of their children, but often they are excluded by restrictive visitation arrangements. Too often the court system, and at times the parents, loses sight of the main focus whenever in the courtroom, which is, the best interest of the children. Children need their fathers regardless of what the court says or does to them.

Although there are unfit parents - mothers and fathers alike - most court judges in this country fail to enforce consequences for biological mothers who refuse to comply with court ordered visitation schedules and ignore the mandates of Shared Parenting Plans. Because most states are "mother states," the father's only recourse is to hire an attorney to provide mediation or file a motion with the courts. Lawyers will attest that mothers in these cases, the fathers are not treated with the same rights to the children as the mother is treated.

"It takes an enormous amount of bad events for a mother to have her children taken away from her and it takes a lot more for a father to prove he is a good father, when the same burden of proof is not placed on the mother." Specifically, those dads who take care of the children and moms are the ones who leave the home. Oftentimes in these cases where the mom is the one who abandons her children, does not pay child support or takes care of her children. Nothing happens to her legally unless the dad is forced to take the issue to court. Ironically, if a father abandons his child (children) and refused to pay child support, he would be arrested and thrown in jail. Or, when released from jail and if he decided to return home and become involved in his child's life, he'd be ordered to pay back child support.

The solution could be a simpler one if only the courts would choose to hand out 50/50 judgments where both parents share equal custody and the financial cost to raise the child (children.) If judges were to decide each case without a "blind eye" divorce and custody cases could run its course without too much difficulty or problems with both parents and the children. But by the way the legal system runs now, and in most states, the judges do not make fair decisions beneficial to both parents and especially to the children. Hence, the mother and father end up returning to court, over and again until the parents have to keep paying legal fees to the courts and lawyers. This merry-go-round only drains the family's finances while tearing the family further apart and beyond repair.

The attitudes and the present divorce and custody standards of the courts, favoring one parent over the other is unfair and needs to change. The courts also need to recognize that every child needs both parents in their life instead of judges having their minds made up to give fathers a raw deal. In the same vein, the court system must learn how to recognize the needs of the children and that children benefit most when they can enjoy the love and support of both parents.

The present rules in this country's legal system are really a tragedy for so many people. Perhaps, as well, parents really need to start working things out on their own and if possible, keep the courts out of their family matters.

Unfortunately, some children never grasp how deeply their bad mouthing hurt classmates and eventually the little snitch grows up to become an adult snitch who joins the workplace only to make employees and managers’ lives difficult.

Most of us know that high productivity and trust are key components to any successful work team and company so that to have a backstabbing employee on board will, in time, destroy the office environment and lead excellent work performance employees down the ladder of efficiency.

Sadly, a handful of employees will stay, deal with the office snitch and surrender to becoming the snitch’s long-term target.

Another handful of employees will leave the company. The employer in turn will not only lose a high-quality employee and business revenue, but the employer is forced to spend time and money to recruit new hires.

Some employees will settle in a company where a snitch is, remain silent and stay far away from the firebrand as much as possible. These employees may feel that they are not any better if they report the snitch to management and/or the Human Resources Department. They may not realize that their silence and distance not only enables the snitch to run over his or her targets but also keeps the door open for the snitch to create a dysfunctional workplace for everyone.

Then there are those who feel insecure about their jobs and not only sway from filing a complaint, keeping quiet and/or distancing themselves, but he or she chooses to stoop down the snitch’s level and resort to talking badly about another team worker. In the same breath, insecure employees will use any mask possible to cast themselves in a favorable light with management in order to protect their jobs at the company. Equal to the leading snitch, these followers don’t care who has to pay the price as long as someone else is targeted.

Mature, peaceful-minded people know that talking unkindly behind another person’s back is immoral, bad for employee morale and camaraderie. But in the distorted mind of the snitch, to not bad mouth about person is a difficult habit to break. Of course, to the rest of the (sane) world, the actions of a snitch are difficult to understand. In reality, we have the common sense to know that backbiting does not bode well for a snitch’s career prospects and/or getting ahead in any company. But in the snitch’s mind, the opposite behavior is the only way, likely because he or she had gotten away with bad-mouthing people for years.

The Personality of a Snitch

1-	If one of your co-workers constantly talks badly about other employees in public, there is a fair chance that they are talking badly and in more detail about other employees behind closed doors with the employer or management.

2-	A person who has been denied a promotion may become resentful and jealous of those who were awarded their promotion and may lower his or her moral standards by spreading false rumors about the promoted employee to show that he or she should have gotten the promotion in the first place.

3-	In corporations, snitches never successfully rise up the corporate ladder. Most upper managers are really too busy and have much more pressing tasks at hand than listen to childish complaints. But that still doesn't mean that the troublemaker will stop stabbing another employee in the back.

4-	Although 99 percent of the time employees who work long hours are really working hard, either arriving early or leaving late because they are on a tight deadline or are overloaded with projects. But there is the chronic office presence that never seems to leave the office. He or she may be the office snitch who witnesses the comings and goings of others. To protect yourself, refrain from revealing too much about your personal life or projects you're working on because the snitch will definitely use the information against you.

We don't have to deal with snitches that deliberately pollute workplace environments. We can take action to protect ourselves by filing a complaint with the manager or the Human Resources department of any illegal, dangerous, unethical behaviors, serious conduct breaches, such as sexual harassment, embezzlement or threats of violence. If no actions result from your grievances, take them to the appropriate state regulatory department.

In the end, and in the eyes and mind of your employers/managers and co-workers is that if you have always gotten stellar performance reviews and have proved your value to the company, employers/managers will dismiss a co-worker's trivial complaints, tell him or her to stop complaining and return to work.

This order represents our view of a basic social commitment to the care of the sick, the weak and the helpless, including justice, equity and human rights. A national healthcare system expresses our belief in the power of science and our attitude toward physicians.

Every “developed country” on this planet has some kind of universal healthcare system available to their citizens. The United States of America happens to be the only country without a universal healthcare system for their citizens. Of course, this is not to say that we don’t have a “quality” healthcare system because we do. We just don’t have the kind that most citizens could afford to buy.

In this country we have over 300,000 licensed physicians. Yet, we’re spending over 16 trillion dollars a year on “privatized healthcare,” while 45 million poverty-stricken Americans are without medical/health insurance and the benefit of seeking medical attention when necessary. However, citizens who are able to afford health insurance spend far more than is necessary through our present healthcare system, and at the same time, receive a slight decrease in benefits. Other countries spend far less on their health insurance plans and receive quality benefits.

The United Kingdom operates the kind of healthcare system, which is extended to all eligible residents of a governmental region. These programs vary widely in their structure and funding methods, particularly the degree to which they are publicly financed for everyone.

As well, Canada has a far more sophisticated and less expensive healthcare system for their citizens. Elaine Bernard, President of the New Democratic Party Healthcare system in Canada (and former President of the British Columbia New Democratic Party) had stated that, “barely anyone (Canadian citizens) waits, especially people with life threatening diseases or health problems.” Canada’s Federal government works to make certain that 95% of the citizens are insured with the national Health Plan, and that 50% of the doctors “are not specialists.” This is compared to the system in the United States, where we have 25% uninsured citizens and 75% of doctors who are titled specialists.

Our ancestors were on their own when it came to their health. Then came medicine, doctors and hospitals. Our ancestors had expert partners assisting them and if they didn’t like their doctor or local hospital, they had the option to choose another doctor and/or hospital for their healthcare needs.

Then came modern managed care. Now, ironically, we’re back on our own again, because your doctor and hospital are forced to take orders from the insurance industry, and that industry is primarily concerned with making a profit on your health.

In order for insurance companies to profit, they must limit citizens’ options on the number and kind of doctor’s visits, tests and treatments that might be costly to them, but were designed to “cure you first and worry about the cost later.”

Once upon a time, and not so long ago, French Utopian Socialist, Charles Fourier stated that, “the physician desires sickness. The undertaker wants burials and forestallers want famine to double or triple the price of grain.” If we take Fourier’s statement to heart then it is fair to say that to a certain degree Capitalism makes people desire bad things to happen to other people so that they can make money.

Is Capitalism, in part, responsible for our healthcare crisis? Is our economical system somewhat at fault for the poor healthcare system we have in this country? Is this country more preoccupied with the defense budget, corporate welfare more than the suffering of humans?

According to the American Student Medical Association (www.amsa.org) the cost to cover all medical expenses for Americans is approximately 69 billion dollars. The government however, chooses to spend 623 billion dollars on our defense budget, which is 123+ billion dollars more than any other country’s defense budget. (www.globalsecurity.org) The government also rewards over 85 billion dollars a year to the people who don’t need it as much, and the people who very much need it for medical care are denied.

Profit making conglomerates own chains of hospitals, nursing homes, kidney dialysis centers, diagnostic laboratories, pharmacies, medical office buildings, ambulatory surgical centers and shopping mall emergency centers. Are physicians andhospitals for profit one of the reasons for the healthcare crisis in this country? Healthcare insurance companies deny claims. Physicians perform expensive operations, often when the patient (the ones who can afford the insurance) doesn’t need the surgery, while the older citizens, poor and weak ones end up suffering the most.

If the American people were to receive the same universal healthcare system as other countries, we’d all live a healthier life. After all, we work as hard as other countries, and supposedly we have more money, a greater number of physicians than other countries. Yet, we seem to spend twice as much (this country has a really bad habit of over spending) and most people still do not receive the benefits from a universal healthcare system. What most hard working Americans do get are those profiteering from human suffering.

Meanwhile, those people who will unfortunately become ill will discover fast just how limited treatment options are. Under managed care you put yourself completely in the hands of an industry that sees you as a cost, to be treated as cheaply and discharged as quickly as possible.

In the past two decades, there has been a turnaround in the number of people who seek and undergo cosmetic surgery. The dominating trend for global cosmetic surgery is run by affordability. Prices aboard for common and special aesthetic surgical procedures - liposuction, breast augmentation, face-lift, tummy-tuck, rhinoplasty and laser hair removal are less expensive compared to the cost of having the same procedures done in the United States and in the United Kingdom. As well, agggressive marketing strategies executed by off shore plastic surgeons and their clinics that persuade more people to fly to other countries for any cosmetic operations more tempting.

(The media has a hand in this “going under the knife” trend too. They often portray celebrities who had opted to have some kind of cosmetic procedure done in a glamorous light so that people want to be viewed in comparison to their favorite celebrity. While other celebrities sport new cosmetic surgeries all the time, the rest of the world often thinks that most of these people are beautiful and happy because of their surgeries.)

Of course, if you can afford the makeover and prefer to go under the knife, like everything else in life, go for it with caution. Because, no matter the initial patient-surgeon consultation, surgeons cannot (despite their expertise in the field) make guarantees. Realistically, there are no guarantees on how you will look after surgery, neither on how skillful the surgeon may be.

A photograph of how a potential candidate may look after surgery cannot take into account the unpredictability of how the skin will react and heal. As in any surgical procedure, there is the possibility that complications may arise once the procedure is complete. During the patient-surgeon consultation, he or she cannot guarantee beforehand your skin’s reception to the surgery, the healing and the pain. That is, will the surgeon satisfy the customer’s expectations? How many hours must be spent in the doctor’s waiting room? How many weeks will it take to recover from the surgical procedure?

There are also psychological issues that patients deal with relating to cosmetic surgery. Yet, despite these physical and psychological risks, people are still searching for ways to change and/or enhance their physical features today. Perhaps because of the enticing advances in technology and promotions, even if it’s at the risk of people’s health and mental state. (The media – newspapers, television, magazines and movies – continues to play a huge role in influencing our society to change their appearance, even if on occasion, the media will report/publish the horrors and consequences of cosmetic surgery.

When ideals of attractiveness and health practices differ, and the importance put on appearance as a motivating factor, women and men will suffer. To be obsessed with “good looks” is a preoccupation that has nothing to do with health and style. Character is far more essential than listening to glamourous stars and reading advertisements that insist on reminding us that the signs of aging are undesirable and can be eliminated with a knife. Cosmetic surgery carries an enormous price tag that is not for everyone.

Natural beauty and healthier looking skin depends on our daily habits, how we treat ourselves and our bodies. Natural beauty experts believe that skin care is “holistic.” If you really want to have healthier skin, looking and feeling better about yourself, it all starts with becoming aware of what you are doing to your skin and what you are putting into your body every day.

Most people practice proper diet and exercise, cultivating positive thoughts about their health so that they can age gracefully. Many women and men believe that smart therapy will provide them with what it takes to help them to look and feel good. They can become slim by exercising. They can become physically attractive by taking care of themselves. The healthier our diet is, the better we will appear. Because whatever we may decide real attractivemeness means to us, may not be attractive in the year 2015. But what will be considered attractive years past are to be young at heart and to age gracefully. Anything is possible if you believe in body and mind that it is possible.

Children are not born with a self-image. Through experiences and interactions with other people (especially family members) young children develop an internal picture of themselves and in time place value on the person they are inside.

Parents with positive attitudes encourage children to try new things, praise their efforts and refrain from comparing a child to siblings or other children are powerful factors that influence heavily in the development of high self-esteem in early childhood. (Children are also affected by parents’ attitudes toward success and failure, and how the parents feel about themselves.)

Naturally, self-esteem (to know who you are as a person, and to love the person you are) goes hand in hand with your personal feelings of self-respect and self-worth. These basic elements are not only critical to one’s emotional and spiritual well being, but they have a tremendous impact on your quality of life, and how you view yourself and others.

However, there are a large number of young adults today who seem to feel uncomfortable developing the heights of their inner strength and instead, connect with low self-esteem. Then, they inadvertently feed on the negative, which in turn, paralyzes them from social interaction, self-expression and the ability to communicate well with others.

Are adolescents who project a poor self-image generally negative and insecure about whom they are? Are these adolescents afraid (and why) to develop a positive attitude and doubly afraid of connecting with what and how they are feeling inside; thus comfortable living in a world of emptiness, isolation, immaturity and loneliness?

Today, the cost of low self-esteem is painfully obvious, particularly for adolescent girls. Despite incredible opportunities for life and career development in recent years, adolescent girls are at greater risk than boys of depression, thoughts about suicide and suicide attempts, eating disorders (the development of anorexia and bulimia, worries about appearance and weight are an even more common way that girls face low self-esteem and the development of general health problems.) Adolescent girls are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol, which are also linked to low self-esteem. Adolescent girls are more likely to drop out of school, while one million girls become pregnant each year.

Reports indicate that adolescents with low self-esteem are more likely to become involved in delinquent behavior. In other cases they may act out violence to compensate for their feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem. One of the appeals of gangs is that they give the gang member a feeling of belonging, acceptance and importance while encouraging group delinquent behavior.

Young adults who lack self-worth oftentimes conceal their feelings of low self-esteem to impress others, gain acceptance, respect and/or approval because they feel that the pretended bravado is more appealing. Not realizing that by suppressing the trauma only inhibits self-appreciation and personal growth. If adolescents continue to feed the developing destructive patterns of behavior into adulthood, the result will only lead to chronic health issues.

(Young people should be taught to love their bodies. It’s not about what the latest fashion magazines tell them they should look like. It’s about loving themselves and their bodies. At times, problems can be so overwhelming it’s difficult for some girls to handle. She could become excessively self-conscious and unsure because of trouble at home, poor role models, and a physical or learning disability.)

Adolescents with self-esteem have a natural and comfortable time describing who they are to other people.

Responsible parents who teach their children well, guide and supports them instills in a child to value who they are, to set goals and to achieve them. Parents help their children to learn how to help themselves to feel secure and good about whom they are. After all, a yearning for achievements is an admirable attribute of human nature. Helping adolescents set achievable, realistic goals by focusing on who they are, rather than on how they look is an important task for parents, caretakers and educators.

For adolescent girls today, the cost of low self-esteem is painfully obvious. Despite today's incredible opportunities for live and career development, adolescent girls are at greater risk of depression and eating disorders than boys of the same age; and are more likely to abuse drugs and alcohol. Girls are also more likely to drop out of school, while one million girls become pregnant each year. (www.loveourchildrenusa.org.)

Those who lack self-worth oftentimes conceal their feelings of low self-esteem to impress others, gain acceptance and respect/approval because they feel that the pretended bravado is more appealing. The decision to live in a make-believe world could only suppress the young adult trauma that inhibits self-appreciation and personal growth. And, if they continue to feed the developing destructive patterns of behavior into adulthood, the result could only lead to chronic health issues.

On the other hand, adolescents with self-esteem have a natural and comfortable time describing who they are to other people. With parental guidance they learn to help themselves to feel secure and good about whom they are. They also interact with others who are as like-minded as they are. (After all, a yearning for achievements is an admirable attribute of human nature.) Parents who teach their children well and supports them raises a child to value who they are and to set goals and to achieve them.

However, some girls develop independence and self worth earlier than others. At times, problems can be so overwhelming it's difficult for a girl to handle. She could become excessively self-conscious and unsure because of trouble at home, poor role models, and a physical or learning disability.

As parents, it is important to reinforce your daughter's (son's) confidence as you begin the process of letting her or him go.

Helping adolescents set achievable, realistic goals by focusing on who they are, rather than on how they look is an important task for parents, caretakers and educators.

Teach adolescents to spend time with people who like and more important, care about them. Ignore and stay away from people who put you down or treat you badly. Teach children to do things that they enjoy and/or that makes them feel good so that they can develop their talents. Teach adolescents to be their own best friend and treat themselves well. Teach adolescents to make positive choices for themselves and don't allow others to make choices for them. All this could only guide adolescents into taking responsibility for themselves, their choices and actions and that they could only want to do what they believe is right. Teach adolescents to be true to themselves and their values, to respect other people and treat them well.

Listen to your children. You may have dreams for them, but they have dreams of their own. Learn to respect them and their thoughts, ideas and feelings even though they will make mistakes along the way. Every child falls and then discovers balance as they learn to walk into the future.

Closing

"Both science and religion teach us that the obstacles to serenity are not external. They live within us. If we acquire the act of proper self-love, if aided by religion, we free ourselves from shadows. Fears and learning to face grief and to transcend it, if we flee from immaturity and boldly shoulder adult responsibility, if we appraise and accept ourselves as we really are, how then can we fail to create a good life for ourselves? For them, inward peace will be ours." (Readers Digest - May 1946)

What is important is how we choose to love, how we express our love through our work. What we believe about ourselves if especially reflected in our self-esteem. Positive beliefs make us feel good about ourselves and raise our self-esteem. Negative beliefs make us feel bad about ourselves and lower our self-esteem.

Eleanor Roosevelt said - "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your permission."

Bullying is a persistent unwelcome behavior. The office bully is the sort of person who thrives on rising unwarranted or invalid criticism with a malicious mix of humiliation, intimidation, verbal abuse, nit picking, fault finding, shouting at and/or berating the target as if he or she is a child, excessive monitoring, being singled out and treated differently.

In the last 20 years or more, bullying has become common in our societies, in school, in relationships, in uniform, in crime, with neighbors, but more devastating, the abuse of the elderly at nursing homes.

Now, this silent epidemic is spreading throughout the workplace.

Despite the façade that such bullies put up publicly, a bully has low self-confidence and low self-esteem, therefore feels insecure. Low self-esteem is a factor that all studies of bullies have highlighted (References attached) As well; people who are psychologically violent tend to have low self-esteem, high self-discipline and intelligence. Until recently, psychologically violent people in the workplace were regarded as tough managers, difficult characters, or at worst, a pain in the rear. (While bullying is often thought of as the bad behavior of employers, a phenomenon known as “horizontal violence” is a form of bullying that occurs among workers (supervisors, managers) on the same level.

Unlike illegal forms of harassment and discrimination, bullying is not directed at a person because of his or her religion, gender, age, race or other demographic variable. Bullying is not a simple conflict, a mere difference in personalities, something done by playful, unknowing jerks. It is the bullying system that grows and sustains them. The bully is not interested in obtaining sexual favors or dominating a vulnerable group. The bully targets an employee because of his or her popularity and competence, which is perceived as a direct threat to the bully.

The office bully, often an employer, focuses on distorted or fabricated allegations of under performance and often go to great lengths to keep their targets quiet by threatening disciplinary action, dismissal and gagging causes. Because the purpose for anyone to bully another is to conceal their inadequacy, lack of performance as a leader and incompetence, the bully uses this method of abuse because he or she is more in fear of their inadequacies from being exposed and then be forced to be made accountable for their behavior and its consequences.

As kids, one of our parents’ responsibilities is to teach us the difference between bad and good behavior. If we behave well there are rewards. If we behave badly there are consequences/punishment. Because an adult bully was never taught how to accept responsibility for their behavior, the bully is, of course, reluctant to accept responsibilities necessary to live in an adult world. However, in the same breath, they desire to enjoy the rewards and benefits of living in an adult world. And unless they desire to recognize their bad behavior and know that there are really better ways of behaving, the office bully may never recognize the effect of his or her behavior on others. Thus, the bullying person could never become a responsible adult and will only exist as an undisciplined little tyrant in the body of an adult.

Unfortunately, bullies have learned how not to be accountable for their actions by using their habitual response of denial, blaming others and pretending that he or she is the victim.

Regrettably, human nature moves co-workers to avoid the target who is being bullied by their superior, remain on guard and even if they witness a boss bullying another team worker they will often side with the bully (employer, who knowingly abuses his or her role and deliberately crosses the line from boss to bully) out of fear of becoming the next victim.

The silent epidemic spreads in the hush while the symptoms of those victims bullied by their bosses rises – a decline in work performance, a rise in absenteeism, rapid turnover, and the departure of the best and brightest, a prevailing aura of distrust, resentment and hostility in an already toxic environment. It would be nice if people could treat others with common decency. But it seems that most people put capitalism before humanity.

Workplace bullying is illegal in most industrialized countries. Yet, awareness of bullying and its seriousness is still low through the world.

Four common bullying conduct patterns are -

1- The screaming, fist-pounding employer who enjoys cultivating fear in others.

2- The friend-to-your-face boss who ends up stabbing you in the back.

3- The constant critic who never ceases to take a break from badgering another person.

4- The gatekeeper . . . Well, he or she is the one who has access to materials and information.

Although their styles may differ, "what all bullies share is that they are Machiavellian (scheming, conniving frauds.) They are willing to manipulate other people to accomplish their own goals. Everything is driven by their personal agenda." (www.uoworks.com - Unique Opportunities Magazine)

Closing
Some people dispute that people need to stand up for and educate themselves. A job is just like any aspect of life. If you stand up for yourself from day one, you will be okay. If you allow someone to walk all over you, the situation will only worsen as times goes by. But there are employees who cannot/will not stand up and defend themselves. It's just not in their psychological make-up and bullies are very skilled at recognizing and exploiting the weak. (www.bullybusters.org)

Others feel that there is no recourse but to leave the job. In the end, the employee always holds the trump card. If the boss is a jerk, the employee can look for another job. If he or she is an excellent worker then the company loses.

Unfortunately, there are many more people who feel that they have to put up with demeaning situations because they need the money and/or benefits. While the last quarter feel that if you are pregnant, sick with cancer, in terrible debt, trying to raise a family, or when you have a pension and medical payments, finding another job, especially in this economy is not easy. Letting bullies run the workplace is bad for business, and it hurts the workplace. Once the bullied target leaves, who's next?

Virtually every woman knows about osteoporosis, the cause of weakened bones and fractures as women age. But, men often fail to recognize factors that could increase osteoporosis, a disease that causes the skeleton to weaken (even though men have larger skeletons) and bones to break, (loss starts later in life and progresses more slowly) because the majority of men who face similar risks view osteoporosis as a woman's disease. Because of this way of thinking, osteoporosis is now a significant threat to over two million American men and the numbers are predicted to double by 2050, if the problem of osteoporosis in men is not recognized and treated.

It's common for women in their 70s to lose up to 50% of their total bone mass. Men experience a similar process, but without the rapid bone loss. But even though men lose bone mass more slowly than women it takes them longer to start getting fractures until he reaches his mid-70s, and by then his risk for getting osteoporosis is about the same as a woman's risk.

And even though the body is continually creating and breaking down bone, the creation of new bone for both men and women after age 35 break down, and they lose more bone than they create, leading to an overall loss of bone strength. Hospitals and nursing homes in the United States spend an estimated $14 billion each year in direct costs for osteoporosis and related fractures. (Source - National Institutes of Health, Osteoporosis and Related Bone Diseases.) These numbers could help physicians better understand how to prevent, manage and treat osteoporosis in men.

According to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, more than 2 million men have osteoporosis and 3 million men are at risk for the disease. Each year, men suffer one-third of all hip fractures and one-third of these men will not survive more than one year, generally as a result of an accompanying illness. While 30 percent of men 50 years and older will suffer an osteoporosis-related bone fracture at some time in their lives, only about 20 percent of those men with osteoporosis get diagnosed and are often diagnosed only after they have suffered a fracture, either in the wrists, hips or spine. Today, osteoporosis is responsible for more than 15 million fractures annually, including 300,000 hip fractures, approximately 700,000 vertebral fractures and 250,000 wrist fractures.

Several risk factors have already been linked to osteoporosis in men, and chronic diseases that affect the kidneys, lungs, stomach and intestines or alter hormone levels, including undiagnosed low levels of the sex hormone testosterone and unhealthy lifestyle habits.

1-	Low body weight in men over 70 years of age. Recent weight loss of more than 10% due to inadequate physical exercise, use of medication, low calcium intake, smoking and drinking increases the risk. Men weighing 150 pounds or less are 20 times likely to get osteoporosis because they have smaller bones. (Supplements with calcium and vitamin D are essential for bone strength.)

2-	Although prostate cancer alone does not increase a man's risk of osteoporosis, some of the treatments do. The Leuprolide (Lupron) drug reduces levels of androgens (male hormones) that play a protective role in bone strength. Men who are given anti-hormone drugs for prostate cancer, or who have undergone actual castration, are now considered to be at high risk for osteoporosis.

3-	Men with chronic pulmonary disease develop osteoporosis. Smoking weakens bones and steroid drugs used to control the disease decreases bone strength.

(In February 2008, the National Osteoporosis Foundation issued official guidelines for Treatment and Prevention of osteoporosis in both women and men age 50 and older. See website below.)

The best ways to increase bone mass during peak bone-building years is educating oneself with the treatments and preventions available. Exercise increases balance and muscle strength, which is important for avoiding falls, although any form of exercise is beneficial. However, weight-bearing aerobic workouts such as lifting weights may be superior to swimming or biking. And many of the drugs (Fosamax, Actonel, Miacalcin and Forteo) that treat osteoporosis in women are also effective in men. Each of these drugs slows bone loss and increases the body's ability to build new bone. But, of course, your doctor is the only professional who could advise if you need drugs, and if so, which drug is right for you. As well, some researchers have linked Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft with lower bone density. If it's not possible to remove the patient from the antidepressants, men should ask their doctors to screen them for osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is called a silent disease because it progresses without symptoms until a fracture occurs. Advanced research is encouraged by doctors, not only to manage and treat men with osteoporosis, but more important to examine men for osteoporosis.

However, the group that had conducted the study concluded "those figures are expected to grow as the population ages within the next 15 years.")

Is that what Thomas Jefferson meant when he wrote the Declaration of Independence, that only "men are created equal?" Is the creation of Jefferson's document “a reason” why unfairness between women and men continue to increase in intensity? There is no mention of fairness whatsoever in Jefferson’s document of women being equal? Was that Jefferson's intent, to give only men all the power?

At that time in history women had no power (they were considered property) and were not given power. Instead, women were confined to the home to take care of the domestic housekeeping duties and the children.

Since then, and years past, Congress and State legislators adopted "new amendments" to the Bill of Rights, which excluded women. The Fourteenth Amendment, which supposedly guaranteed equal protection to all persons, used the words "male citizens." The Fifteenth Amendment was created to give only men the right to vote until Alice Paul stood up for women and formed the Women's Suffrage Movement.

Although no one can deny that we have all come a long way, and that equality between women and men has, at best, improved through the years. Yet, there's still so much conflict sandwiched between women and men today, as there is religious arguments and racial discrimination. These two issues alone seem to indicate that the majority of people are reluctant to accept change and abandon the traditional roles we were raised to embrace.

Once upon a time, the traditional role of the man was to have a job/career, make money and financially take care of his family. The traditional role of the woman was to stay at home, raise the children, clean the house and cook.

Because traditional roles are still very much pervasive in our societies, chauvinistic ideas not only continue to exist, but also are viewed and practiced as normal behavior. That is, men are traditionally raised not to show emotion. Women are raised to show emotion. Men who are sexually promiscuous are applauded while women are criticized. In the political playpen, male politicians are perceived as levelheaded while women politicians are viewed as cold, despite the similarities in behaviors.

Is the purging of sexism (and the power connected to this bigotry) and the promotion of equality really what women and men want?

This ongoing struggle for power is proof that plenty of women and men are against change, particularly if change means giving up their power. All around the globe, people struggle for power, to stay in power, to gain power - women and men, parents and children, rich and poor, white and black. Everyone wants to control perhaps because they fear that change, no matter how positive, will only take away their power to control and then end up being controlled (A good number of people prefer to control.)

Survival is difficult and agendas are being fought over so that it isn’t surprising that because of the inequality battle among women and men, we have more clashing differences all over the place. That is, fixed ideas, favoritism, discrimination, wars, class conflicts, slow and weak changes.

Then the women's movement formed and resulted in tremendous and positive changes for both women and men with respect to the progresses made to traditional sex roles. Yet, injustice knocks again, seeps in and we're facing another show of inequality - The Equal Pay Act.

Historically, men have earned more money than women. In the 1950s, women earned only half of what men earned. In 1963, The Equal Pay Act was created, making it illegal for employers to pay women a lower salary for an equal job. But instead of paying equal salaries, some employers changed the job titles and/or altered the job descriptions for women employees. (Fairly, some law-abiding employers followed The Equal Pay Act, narrowing the gap by the 1990s, seventy-two cents on the dollar as opposed to 50 cents in the fifties. In 1990, the median income was 29,172 for men and 20,586 for women. Unfortunately, the increase stopped there, making the workplace the second unfair environment. (In this day and age, why is it that most companies often pay women less than men even though they do the same work?)

In white collar corporations and blue collar industries, where certain jobs or positions were considered male-oriented work - police officers, judges, construction and welding workers, corporate executives, lawyers, doctors and politicians - women are being hired. But these women still do not receive the equal pay men receive, especially in the corporate world.

Yet another show of sexism is that today there are more men who become stay-at-home dads while the moms return to work. But moms who return to work are still looked upon as the one who is abandoning or neglecting her child/children. If a new mom returns to work and the father stays at home, she is at fault if the child isn't raised properly. If both parents work, the mother is at fault. If a mom stays at home and the father isn't contributing to parental obligations the way they both should, the mother is at fault. Despite the role changes, women are still expected to stay at home, raise the children, cook, clean (and maintain a job outside of the home.) Juggling all this, if the child is disrespectful or misbehaves, the mom is criticized and at fault for not doing a good job at raising the children.

It seems that despite these times we live in, there is still one set of standards that apply to men and another set of standards that apply to women at home, in the workplace and in society.

Who knows? Perhaps one day we may achieve equality when we realize that we really want the same things in life after all. That is, love, peace, harmony and happiness. But of course, a desire for equality for either gender requires a change in society's views of traditional roles and the Equal Rights Amendment. Until then, women will not have the same rights as men under the Constitution.

Because of technology we can reach anyone, anywhere with our cellular telephones and computers. For those people with the inability to walk (after an accident, for example) can now have smart prosthesis to help them. But what about having a chip inside our brain to answer our email messages? Are citizens ready to accept this way of living?

Microchips are almost everywhere. The chips are embedded in the newer car models and can track your traveling habits and immobilize your engine from a satellite. Most schools have installed security cameras, but other schools have cameras in the bathrooms as well. Today, cameras are in parking lots, banks, business offices, hospitals, airports, post offices, malls, anywhere you shop 24-7, making the word "privacy" close to obsolete. (For now, the only place that isn’t monitored is your home.)

Kevin Warwick is the University of Reading in England cybernetics professor and something of a self-promoter. Warwick (or Captain Cyborg as a UK newspaper once dubbed him) had successfully wired the nerves of his forearm to a computer in New York City's Columbia University and networked them to a robotic system back in his England lab. "My body was effectively extended over the Internet," Warwick said. (In his England lab, Warwick carries out research in artificial intelligence, control, robotics and bio-medical engineering.) He is considered to be "one of these prominent individuals who is a leading proponent of the almost limitless potential uses for such chips." (The Jacobs family of Boca Raton, Florida, also made national news for having been micro-chipped.)

In 2002, Warwick had electrodes implanted in the nerves of his left forearm. (prudent for a right-hander.) He used the implant to enslave the robot hand far away in Reading, an electric wheelchair and the lights in his lab, as well as to communicate with his wife, Irena. She had agreed to receive a similar implant to see if "hus-borg" and wife could exchange electrical signals. "If she moved her hand," Warwick said, "my nervous system received one pulse. If she moved her hand three times, three pulses."

Considering citizens concerns about the future of micro-chipping humans, Warwick hopes to continue his lab work and "have a sensor implanted in his brain by 2015 that will allow him to send signals across a computer network." (A Brown University team has already moved the goal posts much closer.)

In 2006 researchers reported that a 25-year-old quadriplegic man had guided a computer cursor and moved a prosthetic arm via a brain implant. "Warwick may have trouble finding a doctor to implant a similar device without a compelling medical reason," points out Charles Higgins, an associate professor of electrical engineering and neuro-biology at the University of Arizona in Tucson.

Such chips are already being tested in prisoners, mental patients, soldiers, handicapped people, homosexuals and single women. It was revealed by Dr. Kilde that former Prime Minister Alof Palme of Sweden had already given permission back in 1973 to implant prisoners. Former Director General Jan Freese revealed that nursing home patients were implanted in the mid 1980s.

An innocent start . . . For years, the law in Toronto, Ontario is that all house pets must be micro-chipped so that the owners could be located in case these pets strayed away. Then, in the province of Quebec, a law was passed requiring all the farm animals to be micro-chipped if you wished to sell them on the market. (This method of tracking the animals was so that the owners could know the pedigree from birth until it was slaughtered.)

The flaw side of having a microchip implanted in oneself is that you could be followed anywhere in the world by means of low-frequency radio waves that target the chips, and with the help of satellites, the implanted person is tracked anywhere.

Is it possible that in the future most humans may have an implanted microchip? Will future societies choose to implant these microchips inside our babies at birth? (Thursday, August 14, 2008, Kevin Warwick encouraged a scared mother to chip her child. www.revelationwatch.com.) However, before this report, and in the January issue of The Canadian, Lucien Desjardins said that doctors in the United States and Europe "are secretly moving to have microchips implanted in newborns." If true, throughout the lives of these newborns, their thoughts would be monitored. And if the thoughts aren't correct or useful ones, their thoughts could simply be altered without the use of individual free will. Then, theoretically, we would all end up living in a world where our reality could be changed or altered to suit the state or the governments' agendas.

Some may argue that there is no way a whole population will "accept" being micro-chipped. Others say that micro-chipping a planet sounds too much like a science fiction fantasy (See The Body Snatchers.) Yet, we know that this is exactly what the program of the one world people is. Yet, how many would agree that what has started as being a supposedly good thing (Internet, cellular telephones et cetera) may end up becoming a way to enslave mankind.

A Peek into the Future

Those who refuse to have the microchip implanted will be accused of trying to hide something. They will constantly deal with delays and inconveniences reserved for those who refused to be chipped; as well, they will be declared enemies of the state and brought to special camps where they will be tortured until they do submit. Those who submit will reap the rewards and benefits offered by accepting the microchip and thus become a mindless slave.

Kevin Haggerty wrote an article entitled, "One Generation Is All They Need," in the December 10, 2006 issue of The Toronto Star, giving a scenario of who will first be implanted with the microchips.

1-	Members of stigmatized groups. That is, pedophiles, terrorists, drug dealers, people society considers to be the worst of the worst.

2-	Accused individuals will be chipped so that they are prevented from fleeing justice.

3-	Prisoners will welcome this development, since only chipped inmates will be eligible for parole, weekend release or community sentences.

4-	The government will also include on their list of other stigmatized groups such as those on welfare. Welfare recipients will need to be monitored to reduce fraud, enhance efficiency and to ensure that the poor do not receive undeserved benefits.

5-	Employers will then start to expect implants as a condition for getting a job.

6-	The United States military will lead the way by requiring chips for all soldiers as a means to enhance battlefield command and control, and to identify remains.

7-	The massive security sector of security guards, police officers, correctional workers and all individuals with sensitive jobs.

8-	The media will sensationalize a child abducted or murdered so that frightened parents will want their children implanted and tracked with a chip.

9-	Hospitals will follow the lead by requiring a chip in order to receive medical treatment.

There is a profound difference between reporting a crime and snitching. Co-conspirators snitch, and are fairly involved in the crime that's being committed. Snitches tattletale on the perpetrators to avoid being accountable for their own actions. A witness, however, is a person who observed a crime in progress, and feels a moral obligation to report what he or she has witnessed. Citizens report and take control of their communities by directing the police through accurate information, because the incident that occurred is serious and dangerous to their communities.

The police and prosecutors in return for citizens' cooperation often respond by making serious efforts to protect and respect those citizens.

For 2-3 years now (if not more) criminals have been taking control of neighborhoods by creating social rules that serve them and divide the community. As citizens, we can no longer idolize outlaws by emulating them, tolerating them or worse, making them rich and insulated.

In the last couple of years our communities have seen the emergence of something known as The No Snitching Campaign, which relates the message that snitches wind up in ditches. This unwritten street culture is spreading across our communities by means of tee shirts, hats, movies, television programs, songs and often the worldwide web. They use these methods in order to send out a clear message of the consequences witnesses will face toward loved ones and/or destruction of property for reporting to the police.

Today, streets gangs have not only adopted these unsavory tactics (similar to those used by organized crime bosses and drugs dealers to intimidate and silence witnesses) but they have gone so far as to arrogantly print out newspaper ads or script the unwritten street law with the intent to spread their messages of hate across the United States of America.

These domestic inner-city terrorists continue to threaten our freedoms and our open society especially in poverty stricken, crime environments where the no snitching mentality thrives. The predominant attitude in these communities, in particular, is that if you see a crime and your report what you witnessed, and then you are a snitch.

But who's labeling witnesses as snitches? The only one who benefits from the no snitching campaign is the criminal who cloud the evidence by blaming others (the witnesses.) Those groups running the no snitching campaign really believe that their unlawful methods will give them leverage and the power to intimidate witnesses. This phenomenon, which is already sweeping this country into silence, will only worsen if these groups aren't stopped from threatening witnesses from reporting criminal activities to the police.

It's going to take the whole community to realize and make it clear that we have a problem infecting our communities and then figure out what our role is in fixing the problem. We have to stand up against the campaign. If not, crime is going to progress.

As well, all officials across the states have to make changes about how their witness protection programs run, and the way the Board of Supervisors approve funds for the hiring of new investigators. The first step is to make citizens feel safe about coming forth as witnesses and that people who witness a crime are protected and not penalized for speaking out against a wrong. Criminals must be made accountable for crimes they enter of their own free will and with malicious intent.

There is no doubt that this no snitching campaign has placed a tremendous burden on our police officers and our legal system's prosecutors, whose hands are tied by frightened witnesses that could otherwise be instrumental in solving criminal cases. But before the authorities can protect witnesses, citizens have to be willing to speak to the police.

However, and because most citizens are not properly protected, they are understandably reluctant to report a crime to the police. Theses witnesses also fear that eventually they will have to testify in a criminal case and in open court. Hence, the witness not only runs the risk of retaliation by being seen talking to the police, but if the witness goes to trial he or she may become more frightened that any member of the accused friends and/or family could follow them to their car or worse, to their home and kill them. Another reasonable fear witnesses have is what if the jury finds the accused not guilty, and then the criminal is back in the streets, living in the witness (or witnesses) neighborhood. What happens then to the witness who struggled to do the right thing? Who protects him or her?

It's not surprising that this campaign of silence, with a staggering number of unsolved cases, not only baffles law enforcement and stifles investigations, but also has caused reluctance on the part of witnesses to report crime events. Yet, without protection for the witnesses given by the officials, these witnesses could only live their daily lives in fear of violent retaliation and ostracism from the communities.

It's not easy for decent citizens who witness a crime, but it's understandable why they are afraid of reporting a crime to the police department. The bottom line is, if witnesses are not protected they are left alone to live in fear of retaliation from those campaigning the no snitching message. If they are not protected and made to feel safe, they will continue to choose silence even if this means living in a high risk, crime environment.

Together and somehow we, the people and the officials have to work to find a way to change the minds of people about the difference between snitching where a criminal gives someone up to save their own skin and witnessing criminal activity. Reporting a crime event is a responsible citizen coming forth with evidence of a crime that has been committed.

What would you do if someone knew who killed your mother or father but was too afraid to report what he or she had witnessed to the police?

We cannot continue to live in a society that supports the rights of criminals, and abandon the rights of citizens. Because, if we sit back and allow this campaign to continue, the only thing we could possibly expect in the future is that criminals will hold our communities hostage and terrorize our neighborhoods.

Are domestic violence victims justified in killing their abusive partner? How long have the victims accepted the battering before murder seemed to be the only way out? At the beginning of the relationship, did potential victims grin and bear their mate's abusive behavior, and why? Did they surrender to the bad situation, therefore enabling their abusers to feel comfortable with what they were doing, controlling and isolating them? Had the victims encouraged their abusers in any way?

Most of us seem to forget that society has not given males the right to domestic violence. The victims have given their abusers the right to violate them. And until we realize that the victims are the only ones who can break the cycle, society will continue to puzzle over, "What will happen when the large scale of battered females in our communities decide to kill their abusive mate, rather than to take responsibility for their behaviors?"

Unfortunately, some advocates are determined to defend why battered females would choose to end the violence by killing the abuser, alleging that abusive males dominate and terrorize their partners and drive them to the breaking point so that the victims have no choice when backed against the wall to fight back and kill.

And although these same advocates claim that the victims are isolated from their family and friends, not all family members and friends refuse to become involved in home violence. Family members and concerned friends do get involved, take the victim to their home to protect her, only to end becoming frustrated because the abuser calls, or comes by to apologize and the victim decides, "He's calmer now. He wants to talk. I'm going back home."

Still, advocates continue to allege that the main reason for the profound increase in home violence against females today is because these victims are isolated from family members and friends who could help break the cycle of abuse. And battered females' major reason (other than remaining in the relationship because they also have children with the abuser) not to leave the relationship is fear of escalating abuse. Then, the last straw for most victims is to retaliate, kill the abuser and end the violence.

Thereafter, the victim and her supporters appear in court and the female's supporters stress that the judges and society are at fault, not the victims, for their failure to cooperate with the law and mandate the police to protect victims from home violence, making the judges accountable for their actions in court. Responsibility is key. Is the victim not accountable for reporting the abuser to the legal system only to return to the arms of the violent partner?

Is the act of revenge by battered females due to a personality defect and not in the actions of their partner's behavior? Is retaliation the victims' way of getting back at the legal system for not recognizing the abuser's violence against them and blaming the victims? Is this the reason the criminal justice system now leans toward holding battered female accountable for killing their mate?

Although women are far more likely to be killed by their male partner than vice versa, when a woman does kill a man, the instant knee jerk reaction on feminists' blogs et cetera is the battered wife defense. We rarely hear the battered husband defense opined in such a situation.

When and if battered females are convicted of killing their abusive mates, they did not "lose in court because of an insidious stereotyping that continues to work again them." (Ms Magazine - August 2003) "They lose because the 1984 New Jersey Supreme Court had decided that battered females do not accept responsibility for their circumstances and tolerate the beatings from their abuser."

The question on the minds of many for quite some time now is not, Why more than what's been done to help females in domestic violence situations in over fifty years by the legal principles, but why have females not yet taken responsibility?

Are there more than a handful of females who cry abuse only after they are arrested for killing their partner? To many women and men, the action makes them suspicious of the battered females' defense, simply because it is too convenient. If anyone anywhere at any time can get a reduced sentence by claiming abuse, then what happens if it comes to light that there wasn't abuse and the female killed simply to be rid of her partner for unknown reasons that may possibly be revealed during trial?

From a police officer's angle, domestic violence can be really annoying because there are a lot of fake victims, especially in child custody and divorce type situations, that totally game the system for all its worth to get better civil judgments, or to get back at a cheating spouse. These fake victims totally do an injustice to the real victims because they make all cases that much more suspect when everybody knows that people lie when sex, money, jealousy and all sorts of emotions are involved.

There are people in our society who really believe that females who kill their partners in cold blood know that all they have to do is cry abuse to get leniency. This is not at all to discredit those who are actually abused, just a point that some people take advantage of the fact that juries take pity on those who claim abuse. The legal system, in all fairness, should not accept this defense blindly but they should investigate the claim of abuse and see if the claim can be corroborated and substantiated.

This decision does not give any battered spouse a license to kill the batterer. It is up to the jury to decide in any given case whether the evidence, particularly that of the experts, is sufficiently compelling to warrant acquittal. In all likelihood, there will be a few circumstances where the defense will be successful.

CORNERSTONE

Twenty years past, Massachusetts created a program to train judges to better handle domestic violence cases. Should the judges embrace the burden of learning how to be psychologically sympathetic toward victims who have accepted their circumstances? Should all those anti violence crusaders learn to use their unoccupied time to train victims how to better understand themselves and their chosen relationships?

At that time, several judges thought that the program would be a provocative solution in shrinking domestic violence. Today, the problem is running into the ground harder than at the time The 1978 Abuse Prevention Act and the Massachusetts program were in effect.

The purpose for the 1978 Act and the 1987 program was to get the message out that home violence is a crime, and that victims are protected. Yet, domestic violence zoomed in the 1980s and 1990s and females are victims in 98% of the domestic violence cases today. Is no one getting the message? Is the legal system at fault or are there just more victims who have chosen to remain in a degrading environment? What kind of Act or program will we need by the year 2010 before someone gets the message?

CLOSING

There is massive discrimination against male victims in the domestic violence context. According to the Federal Bureau of Justice Statistics, women who commit unprovoked killings of their husbands get only 7 years in prison, whereas men who commit unprovoked killings of their wives get 17 years in prison. And it's much harder for a prosecutor to get even a clearly guilty abusive wife for killing her husband, since most wives who abuse their husbands invariably claim battered women's syndrome even when they dominated and abused their husbands for years. (www.volokohconspiracy.com)

Let us recognize that domestic violence and abuse are often mutual and equal justice demands equal treatment. Eliminate attempts to designate one person, primarily the male, as the primary aggressor. Let us recognize fair treatment for medical and mental health problems in domestic situations for either or both partners. Let us recognize domestic violence, abuse and human problems not as a gender issue. (www.dvmen.org, www.ejfi.org/dv-26htm)

Once again, murder victim, David Harris is mistreated by the media - February 22, 2008 - Clara Harris, Murder by Mercedes. Of the 354 news stories indexed on Google News, 233 refer to David Harris as Clara Harris' cheating husband. Not one feature mentions the phrase, domestic violence. Were the genders reversed, would we see headlines saying, Man Killed Cheating Wife?

Is there any wonder that the media thrives to have men and women hating each other? Is the media pondering to what the majority of the reading public want to read? Is the media purposely dictating to the audience, and those who buy advertising space to sell to the media so that they could reap the rewards from the controversy?

Does your partner behave passive one day and aggressive the next? Does your partner throw criticisms, make accusations or verbal threats to keep you on the edge? Does your partner withhold intimacy to punish you? Do you behave differently, diminish your integrity, to please your partner?

Most people will agree that those who answer yes to any of the above questions are in an emotionally abusive relationship with a partner who is not only miserable with their own life but who expects their partner to fix his/her problems. If your partner uses manipulating tactics to suggest that you change who you are to serve a fantasy of his/hers, you are in a loveless relationship. But perhaps because people are often not well educated about emotional abuse, they think it’s okay. After all, most people do not recognize emotional abuse because unlike physical abuse, the scars of emotional abuse are invisible.

While it's not Okay to suffer any kind of abuse, emotional abusers are skilled manipulators who know that what they are doing is wrong. But if you feed into their deceit, you only encourage them to keep pushing your buttons until you feel so lost in the relationship that you become desperate to repair it.

Look at the relationship. Does your partner refuse to face reality and accept responsibility for what happens in the relationship, and instead blames you, society, the world for his/her problems? Then, you can count on him/her never having the guts to take responsibility, because like children, they are dependent. They never lived independently, unless they are forced to because their partner ends the relationship. And if they do live independently, they live poorly. Unlike stable people who do live independently, abusers lack the ability to have an objective outlook on reality. They never learn nor understand the impact of their abuse on their partner because they are self-absorbed, simple minded frauds who thrive on playing the victim game.

When rationally minded people are in a good mood, they feel high energy and little tension. When we are in a bad mood, we feel low physical energy and high tension. It’s important to tune into your moods and keep a balance between negative moods and your sanity. But of course, most of us have the sense to talk ourselves out of a negative mood because we know that if we behave negatively, a price will be had for our behavior.

Emotional abusers are different. Because they lack the discipline and maturity to control their moods they have the tendency to overdramatize and respond recklessly to what’s happening around them. (This is a changeable personality that most psychologists call a schizophrenic personality. http://www.schizophrenia.com)

A changeable personality is a defect in the cortex part of the brain responsible for reliable and normal response or action. The job of the brain’s cortex is to stop impulsive and negative behavior. Those with a cortex defect cannot control the impulsive behavior long enough to consider the consequences of their actions so they behave in destructive ways.

Personality disorders occur as a result of severe, on-going emotional, sexual or physical abuse. Although schizophrenia and multiple personality disorders are commonly linked, maltreatment patterns, severe sexual, physical neglect or severe physical and emotional abuse showed the highest degree of personality disorder.

A study conducted on the potential causes of schizophrenia (read www.springerlink.com) discovered that emotional abuse had the greatest correlation between schizophrenia and dissociative symptoms, corroborating that emotional abuse and schizophrenia are linked.

Although debatable, physical abuse is not considered as prevalent when the perpetrator is female, but emotional abuse definitely is. Unfortunately, we live in a society where the abuse of men is not a mainstream concern and society refuses to recognize that female perpetrators are as abusive as males. (It is common for mothers who sexually abuse their sons to rely on emotional manipulation and control. www.kalimunro.com)

As long as you let them, they will blame you for their bad behavior and imply that they behave the way they do because you don’t love them enough. But it won't stop there. Tomorrow he/she will have another excuse for their negative behavior.

Love should make you feel good about yourself. To behave naturally and reveal yourself to another person is what we should desire to feel into our relationship. A positive partner is a luxury, not a necessity. You don’t need him/her to feel complete. You were complete long before you let him/her into your life. Knowing all this, how can you trust or believe in someone who refuses to change his/ her behavior to better the relationship? How can you feel anything but despair, especially when the time you do spend together is usually emotionally abusive? Maybe it's time to let go.

The volunteers for the study were asked not only if anyone in the household suffered from asthma, but also of their history of experiencing or witnessing domestic violence. Together with the data gathered by the Harvard researchers, they had included other factors associated with asthma, exposure to tobacco smoke, the level of education and income.

The study revealed that women who had experienced domestic violence in the past year had a 37 percent increased risk of asthma. The women who had not experienced domestic violence themselves but had lived in a household where some women had been beaten, there was a 21 percent increased risk of asthma than for women who did not live in violent households. As well, women living in a household where she experienced domestic violence also increased the risk of reported asthma in children and adult men.

Although the Harvard researchers could not conclude the association between domestic violence and asthma 100 percent, there is evidence of several mechanisms explaining a strong relationship between the two. Exposure to violence, and other psychological and social stressors in fact affect the immune system, and in turn that inflammation in the system plays a role in the development of asthma. And those exposed to violence may adopt certain coping behaviors that may predispose them to asthma, such as cigarette smoking.

This is the first study to examine the relationship between violence and asthma in India, where domestic violence is at high levels, and where the World Health Organization estimates 15-20 million asthmatics live. "Asthma is socially patterned with a higher prevalence among lower socio-economic groups, probably because of greater exposure to adverse environmental and social circumstances," Dr. S.V. Subramanian of the Harvard School of Public Health expressed.

Although the study had established the strong link of women in domestic violence relationships developing asthma, the Harvard researchers failed to conduct a study on how men who are in domestic violence relationships are affected with asthma. In all fairness, two separate studies would explain how men in abusive relationships are affected with asthma as well. However, the Harvard study ignored half the population. What was the scientific basis for the Harvard School of Public Health to exclude the battered men from its study on domestic violence and asthma, even though the study indicated that "asthma risk was also higher among the men living in violent households?"

Because men experience domestic violence with health impact, more research is needed to determine the best ways for doctors to ask men if they have experienced violence, and how best to help them into couple counseling, leaving their abusive partners or getting protection orders. (The National Domestic Violence Hotline is toll free 1-800-799-SAFE, www.sciencedaily.com for further information on how domestic violence affects men's health.)

The latest data from the Center for Disease Control had shown that in the United States alone and every year, approximately 1.5 million (six months ago) women and 800,000 men are raped or physically assaulted by a partner. However, there is no data available to establish how 14% of the men in abusive relationships (and who require medical attention) are affected with asthma. (http://www.aemj.org/cgi/content/abstract - The University of Pennsylvania emergency room.)

There is no doubt that if an unbiased scientific study were fairly conducted, medical researchers would discover that the same factors found in women in domestic violence environments apply to men with the same respiratory conditions as addressed by the Harvard School of Public Health.

The popular asthma drug, Singulair, may be linked to suicide. The FDA (May 15, 2008 - Bottom Line Publication) is investigating the "montelukast" drug because anecdotal accounts suggest an association between the drug and suicidal thoughts and behavior. The person taking this drug should be alert to changes in mood and/or behavior and report the chemical affects to their doctor perhaps to switch to another drug.

And how positive are the programs that network stations encourage our children to watch today?

Nielsen Media Research had once reported that the average person watches 28 hours of television a week, while Business Week reported that half the country's more than 102 million households tune in.

Most children, in particular, begin watching television as early as six months, and are intense viewers by the time they reach 2-3 years of age. Televised viewing increased with age, but gradually lessens by the time the child becomes an adolescent, according to researchers and psychologists and whether that particular child was raised without watching violent content on television, which is far more important than the amount of television he or she watches while growing up.

Most parents and television viewers in general will argue that times have changed. That there was a time when public stations actually cared about what the American people watched (especially our children.) However, in recent years, if television viewers did not watch a new program, the network station would immediately pull the plug on the program, regardless if the parents felt that the educational or entertaining program had a positive influence on their children.

This could mean that parents-children viewers are not who television broadcast stations rely on for their ratings. Viewers’ opinions about what occurs with our public stations have become obsolete, with lesser educational and entertaining programs, while the increase in programs that depict/promote nudity, vulgarity, brutal fighting, characters who hit their partners and violence has risen. Public stations' ratings have taken precedence over programs that interest viewers in a positive way.

Although not as strongly as in the last 10 years, responsible parents do write to local television stations (and movie networks) to state, not only to cut the violence and inappropriate content for children, but especially to provide challenging, constructive, educational and entertaining programs suitable for the minds of our children. Those parents make a difference by demanding public stations to take responsibility for the inappropriate television programs that would eventually change the attitudes of their children in a negative way and instead of focusing on their network ratings as a primary goal.

Seventy percent of parents watch television with their children regularly and have noticed the dramatic changes in a variety of programs public stations are providing, and in which they feel will eventually cause their child to behave violently, given the times we live in, where sex and violence are both heavily presented on television.

Reasonable parents are worried that this sort of viewing (despite the discretion caption notice at the beginning of the program) may damage children's faith in the stability of their own family. Children cannot understand violent and/or sexual situations, particularly when they view adults having sex with different partners. Therefore, parents and network stations need to understand how children react and respond to television violence.

Many parents sincerely believe that children (especially boys) often play out and imitate the kids’ cartoon heros on television. Other parents believe that the animated Family Guy program isn't their meaning of a family-oriented program to watch with their children.

Then we have the group of parents who (despite the fact that more violent content is shown on television) do not recognize the affects of watching violent content may have on the minds of their children. Unfortunately, the parents who condone inappropriate television programs for their children outweigh the voices of those parents who do recognize and convey their concerns to the network stations.

Those parents who permit their children to watch television programs wtih sexual and violent content do not believe the research studies indicating that watching sexual scenes or violent content on television influences the underdeveloped minds of their children to behave violently in the the future because in their opinion, despite "viewer discretion," television programs are less violent today than during the time they were growing up. They rationalize that they grew up watching programs with violent content and sexual scenes when they were kids and have not been negatively affected. Therefore, it's unlikely that their own cildren would become negatively influenced by most (viewer discrettion) programs created for children today.

At the other end of the table, we have the group of parents who really believe that in the past 20 years, programs were more educational and entertaining than the programs created for our children today. They also believe that violence today is more prevalent in programs than in the true family-oriented programs of the past. These parents believe that those parents who do not see any problems with the programs for children today have no clue on how harmful the affects of onscreen violence could eventually influence children, particuarly children who copy-cat the violent behavior they view. After all, children believe that whatever adults watch and do is right, even if what they watch is confusing and disturbing to them.

Once upon a time, a group of psychologists believed that children should not be raised with a tolerance for violence and experiments have indicated that watching violence has a "polluting effect on children." These psychologists believe that there is as much onscreen violence as there is in our communities, and if children continue to watch violence on a regular basis, the mind will develop as they grow up believing that what they see on the screen is standard behavior.

The more children watched onscreen violence at the age of eight, the more serious were the crimes they were convicted of by age 30, the more aggressive their behavior when drinking, and the harsher the punishment they inflicted on their own children. This is not to suggest that all children will become insensitive and criminal. There's the group of children who will reach adulthood with a sense of what's right and wrong, what's real and what is make believe, but unfortunately will develop a desensitized attitude. (References noted - The Justice System's Silence toward Our Littlest Criminals.)

However, today there is a handful of psychologists and researchers who do not believe that television violence affects the behavior of children, and that there is less violence on television today than the programs shown in the past therefore there is less tolerance for any type of violence.

Most parents (70%) as those indicated above, find that the previous theory is difficult to understand. Most Americans agree that there is a strong link between disturbance on television and a real-life violent society. And as we all know, what is expertly researched or analyzed is not always fact because the results established by researchers and psychologists are often times answers to what they expect or want to find in the first place.

However, if parents who rely on the research studies/psychologists television violence is less today and that their children will not develop a tolerance for violence, perhaps they should consider watching television programs (with viewer discretion announcements) with their children and explain what is going on in the scene. That is, of course, if the parents are able to recognize bad behavior on the television screen.

Of course, with two groups of parents having diffferent views on this topic, it's difficult to determine which side makes more sense - the researchers/psychologists and parents who believe that onscreen violence is likely to affect the behaviors of their children; or the researchers/psychologists and parents who do not believe that watching violent content for any length of time could affect the mental development of their children?

Everyone has their own thoughts and ideas about what is right and what is wrong for the mental well-being of their children. But what most of us cannot argue is that this nation has appalling statistics for murder in the family - rape, espousal and child emotional and physical abuse, molestation, perversion and vulgarity. Yet, in-depth creations of violence are still offered as entertainment. At minimum, children raised with discipline, rules and parents’ moral authority watch less television.

The first mention of concern over how television affects our children can be found in many congressional hearings as early as the 1950s. The United States Senate Committee on Juvenile Delinquency held a series of hearings in 1954-1955 on the impact of televison programs on juvenile crime. These hearings were only the beginning of continuing congressional investigations by this committee and others from the 1950s to the present.

Racism or racialism is a form of discrimination based on race, especially the belief that one race is superior to another. Racism may be expressed individually and consciously, through explicit thoughts, feelings, acts or socially and unconsciously through institutions that promote inequality between races. It seems to me that Americans of African descent have been given a "green" light to carry out "inverse racism". Using the excuse of slavery which was stopped over 150 years ago, white Liberals plagued by guilt have created mechanisms such as multiculturalism, or diversity coupled with affirmative-action which is nothing more than the preferential selection of blacks or other minorities to fill jobs that used to be carried out by white Americans. This preferential selection favoring minorities, is based solely on race, and not qualifications. Is affirmative action intensifying, and inciting racial tensions rather than easing them.

I also agree with William Raspberry who wrote the following for an editorial about this divisive subject: "Some of us believe that the best way to achieve a colorblind future is to practice colorblindness now".

During the mid 90's in New Jersey, budget cuts forced a school to make the decision to lay off one of two teachers. One was white, the other black. Both were equally qualified, and both had been hired the same day. The school did the Politically Correct thing and fired the white teacher and kept the black one. Nat Hentoff wrote an Op-Ed entitled "Fired For Being White" about this decision, and I quote: "When students see a teacher being removed form the faculty solely because of his or her race, what lesson does that teach the students?" I believe that two wrongs don't make a right. Slavery was wrong, but so is affirmative action. I firmly believe that success not earned is not the American way.

A disturbing trend we are witnessing is the double standard and use of politically correct "newspeak" that allows blacks to declare themselves as being victimized racially simply to silence others opinions. An example of this was when radio talk show host Mr. Don Imus was again accused of saying "racist comments" when he simply stated the truth, namely that our prisons are populated by many Afro-Americans. In fact most crimes against blacks are committed by other blacks. Also we must note that 27% of the United States prison population is comprised of illegal aliens. It is another "politically correct" lie that they all come here to work.

The media discourages the use of the "N" word, but blacks can freely toss around the insulting label of "cracker". (ABC's The View - Whoopi Goldberg recently flavored the N word and more than a couple of people commented on how "blacks could get away with calling white people "cracker," plus other unsavory names.) Yes there is a double-standard foisted upon us thanks to Political Correctness. Many Afro-Americans and their representatives want "reparations" to be given to that group to compensate for damages caused by Slavery, an institution that was banished about 150 years ago. I feel that this would be a grave injustice as Slavery was ended so long ago, why punish whites now? "Two wrongs don't make a right."

Not that long ago, Kanye West accused President Bush of being against the black community on live television. Yet whites cannot question anything about Barack Hussein Obama, for example his middle name, his religion, his ties to radical groups, etc, without receiving insults and being labeled racists or bigots.

Another example of the double standard, whereby any white can by lynched by our politically correct media, is the case of the black stripper who accused the Duke Lacrosse team members of raping her. The media and a great swath of our population assumed it was true. This was a case where whites were victims of a racial witch hunt. In fact, a Wall Street Journal article from June 20, 2007 by John Steele Gordon entitled "Racial Role Reversal" showed how racial injustice towards the five white students led to the prejudicial presentation or reporting of this case. The author wrote the following: "[M]any Duke University students and faculty, and many members of the media simply plugged the alleged circumstances into their racial paradigm - wealthy white college jocks partying and behaving badly with regard to a poor black woman - and proclaimed the Duke boys guilty."

And: "Meanwhile the 88 members of the faculty have yet to apologize for a rush to judgment that was racist at its heart." [Note: one apologized.] So we have 5 totally innocent white students and athletes whose lives and reputations were tarnished and trashed by not only the Duke Lacrosse administration, but also by our media, and by black leaders such as Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson. Mr. Jackson even rewarded the lying stripper with a scholarship. Mike Nifong the District Attorney of Durham County was disbarred for dishonesty, fraud, deceit, and misrepresentation for trashing and persecuting these white youths. Yet their lives will never be the same, and they did not even sue the lying stripper for damages. Even The New York Times smeared these young men. Their families have been severely hurt by astronomical legal expenses all based on the lies of the black stripper.

Don Imus the tv, and radio host was fired in April of 07 by CBS, and MSNBC for using a "racial slur", that pales by comparison to what we can hear daily on most rap, or hip-hop recordings, or concerts. Afro-Americans can use the "N" word, or the "F" bomb, or label women as "hos" or whatever, and you did not hear a word about this from Sharpton or Jackson until after the Imus fiasco subsided, and public scorn forced their decision to address the issue after public pressure mounted.

Right after the presidential elections of 2000, black leaders like Sharpton and Jackson were screaming to the four winds that black votes had been "disenfranchised" in the state of Florida, when Gore lost all 4 recounts to Bush. Yet just a few months ago the Democratic Party disenfranchised the votes of both Michigan and Florida during the primaries between Obama, and Hillary. After much contention, and party infighting, the votes of both those states counted only by half! Obama was awarded points he did not even earn nor win. (affirmative action votes?) So after Hillary won the popular vote, the party selected Obama. Yet where is the black outrage? Perhaps Sharpton and Jackson look forward to being invited to White House state dinners, and flights on Air Force One? Because Obama is half black, Afro-Americans are happy with this unfair outcome. They support an inadequate inexperienced black male versus a competent experienced white woman. This looks like racism to me, exactly like affirmative action where the preferential selection is determined solely by race, and not by qualifications, or on the job experience. Fraudulent practices, such as fake employment advertisements that promise jobs and safe entry into another country generally lead to sexual exploitation, dangerous or hard labor, and sex tourism. Victims are either held against their will, afraid to ask authorities for help due to possible deportation, or may not be able to speak the local language when seeking help. Other victims are forced to toil in sweat shops, construction sites, brothels and fields.

Men, women and children experiencing dire political or economic instability are the most susceptible as potential victims. Many, unknowingly, enter this network of organized crime while trying to escape poverty and unemployment or forcibly during conflicts/wars.

Because this criminal enterprise recognizes neither boundaries nor borders, humans are now the third most lucrative illegal traded commodity, after drugs and guns.

The trafficking of persons is becoming the fastest growing illicit activity in the world, annually generating $8-10 billion and moving 800,000 - 900,000 people across borders. The number of human trafficking victims had begun to grow in the early 1990s and in 2004 totaled about 700,000 yearly across international borders and from one million to two million overall. Thirty-five percent are under the age of 18. The trafficking of women and children, many of whom are forced into prostitution, are worldwide human rights problems that may involve two million people a year.

Other victims have been sold in this ancient form of slavery by a relative, acquaintance, or family friend. Not long ago, CNN showed children being sold by their parents, boys and girls alike. Young women sold out by husbands and parents to send money back home. Young women in North America holed up in motel rooms too scared to leave their rooms, and being told what to do. http://www.cnn.con/CNN/Programs/res...easy.prey.html)

The Department of Justice and Congressional Research Service estimates that 17,000 people from overseas are trafficked into the United States each year and coerced into labor or sex slavery for little or no pay, dehumanized and abused both mentally and physically. Worldwide, the United Nations calculates that there are between 20-27 million people who are held in slavery against their will. Congress had strengthened the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, but the Act is not tough enough and those United States’ allies that harbor traffickers are treated with kid gloves (for political reasons. http://www.humantraffickingsearch.net, http://library2.cqpress.com)

Donna M. Hughes, The Coalition Against Trafficking in Women, has explicitly stated how new technology - trafficking and sexual exploitation on the Internet - is used as a means of promoting this type of global exploitation against women. That is, bride trafficking, sex tours, promotion and where to buy a prostitute. (http://www.feminista.com)

Some observers of the United States Department of State estimate that the number of persons trafficked per year may be higher than the public report conducted by The Department of Justice and Congressional Research Service. (www.state.gov/g/tip/rls/tiprpt/)

Despite that a second annual Trafficking in Persons Report was sent to Congress, and that the United States seeks to bring international attention to this type of horrific practice, the United States Government is still combating human trafficking and engaging in discussions with governments to help strengthen cooperative efforts to eradicate this growing plague. We all continue to wait for the governments efforts to end human trafficking all around the world. And while we wait, it's difficult to understand why there isn't a greater uproar about this issue worldwide.

Is it possible that the issue of human trafficking isn't getting the attention it deserves because too many people think it is simply prostitution? Perhaps some people believe that because sex slavery is not a modern plague, and has been going on for thousands of years in one form or another with both genders, not just women and girls, that there’s not much that can be done to stop human trafficking in the future?

The issue of prostitution is that a number of us always believed that prostitution should be illegal, as well, that the true criminal is not the prostitute but the person who uses economic power to abuse the vulnerable. Prostitution is not victimless, and reflects the ever continuing grasp of misogynist political philosophy on the application and enforcement of laws that demeans and degrades women and men. Another group believes that by not legalizing prostitution, it is not going to make it go away so it may as well become a legal industry, while giving fair rights to those people who participate in prostitution and may minimally have a legal leg to stand on.

With mixed feelings and ideas from either side and on every side, it seems that the ending of human trafficking is not near.

Does the responsibility lie with the officials we have elected to enforce laws that will protect us?

Because there isn't anything that can be done (scientifically) to control the ills of these demented criminals, nor studies to show that sex predators/pedophiles can be cured, there is sufficient evidence that these criminals will continue to re-offend when released from prison. Yet, knowing that sick perverts cannot be rehabilitated, the justice system unleashes them back into our communities to repeat their monstrosities.

A majority of mental health researchers and defense attorneys argue that criminals who create mayhem, and violate our children, have rights. It logically seems as though the justice system is defending and protecting the criminals, while abandoning the victimized citizens and their children.

Most of us will argue that criminals who commit heinous crimes, such as molestation, rape and murder of our children have forfeited their rights. (The world is difficult enough as it is without mentally twisted fiends destroying innocent lives.)

Now, the new push in every state's Department of Corrections is to stop building new prisons because it’s too costly. While releasing vicious criminals from prison may save tax dollars, it costs priceless lives. (The notorious child killer, Marc Dutroux, was released from prison only to continue adding victims to his list.)

If those officials we rely on to enforce laws do not take severe measures to safeguard our communities and protect us, we will sooner begin to ask, "Whose child (or loved one) will be the next victim?"

People's Opinions

1- Some people say, put pedophiles away into our prison system for the rest of their lives. That would be nice if the hardworking tax payers would willingly accept having the burden of supporting these criminals for the rest of their lives. But the system rejects this idea because those in charge claim that costs keep increasing yearly, as does the prison population.

2- Others believe in the death penalty, even if the cost of putting someone on death row ends up being very expensive too, due to all the appeals. When we are one-hundred percent certain that someone is a sexual beast, citizens feel he should be put out of his misery and executed.

3- Castration won't work. "A guy confined to a wheelchair, paralyzed from the waist down, attempted to digitally penetrate a girl, while he had previously said to the mother that he would watch over her while the mother started her vehicle. In one moment, he picked up the girl, held her on his lap and locked the door behind him. Thankfully, the mom heard the girl screaming, kicked the door down, beat the perpetrator and saved her daughter. He is currently serving a term of 75 years. (www.crimelibrary.com)

4- A large group believes we should put all pedophiles on a deserted island away from civilization. Let them have their own society, where they can rape, molest and murder each other, as long as they are kept away from our children.

5- Others have suggested the renewed use of lobotomies. This may be the best solution, if only a doctor could figure out how to disable that part of the brain that causes the urges that trigger evil. Otherwise, the death sentence may be best.

Although none of us has a definitive solution, what most of us realizes is that sex predators/pedophiles are not being kept in prison long enough, and the system cannot afford to keep them locked up for a lifetime.

Meanwhile, it's time to monitor the young and potential predators/pedophiles who are actively abusive and show behavioral signs of sexual offense before they become adults. The justice systems must find ways to put them under scrutiny at an early age to prevent them from preying and destroying innocent children in the future. Teachers and parents ought to be encouraged and trained to recognize young predators/pedophiles, then report them to seek psychiatric treatment and remain closely monitored.

About 90% of our citizens would like to see mandatory substance testing of police officers, especially during Internal Review procedures, or criminal investigations involving unethical men/women in blue, and those same citizens prefer that these unscheduled drug/alcohol tests be applied and carried out as most Corporations, agencies and companies do, that is they require potential employees to submit fingerprinting, urine and blood tests before hiring. (Some agencies may also require hair samples.) Police officers should not be exempt, especially since these important officials are called on to serve and protect us and our property.

(Discretionary testing isn't working because routine testing can be manipulated, prepared for and avoided in its scheduled form, the same as whenever a teacher announces an exam. To study for an exam in advance is easy.)

If law enforcement officers demand announced or scheduled drug testing for which they can easily prepare, it would only fuel doubts in citizens’ minds, that these officers have something to hide. In Bucks County, Pennsylvania, correction officers get tested randomly. In most states, so do truck drivers.

We know well that officers are put into stressful life threatening situations daily. They are called upon to protect the lives of the public, to make on-the-spot mental decisions as required. It is common knowledge that stresses and socioeconomic difficulties are known to lead or escalate drug use or drinking to excess, so the policy for police officers to submit to random unannounced urine, blood and hair samples should not be open for discussion.

As a rule, police officers are bound to personally support the laws governing his or her jurisdiction. The citizens of that jurisdiction rightfully expect that the officer will be in extremely good mental and physical health while executing his or her duty, as is the case in any profession where employees carry firearms or have the responsibility to handle illicit substances. (It is against the law for drug dealers/addicts to possess firearms, yet it is permitted by current guidelines, that other potential addicts whom we rely on for protection may carry and use one because he or she has a badge.) If a police officer is going to carry a weapon and drive a vehicle at high speeds through our communities we have the right to peace of mind knowing that the officers have a clear substance free mind.

(In Canada, though, workplace drug testing is anything but routine, which is why retired Ontario justice George Ferguson's call to make drug tests mandatory for Toronto Police Service Officers being promoted or transferred to sensitive or high-risk units has sparked such an uproar. Toronto Star Newspaper - www.thestar.com.

Considering that it is legal in Victoria, Canada for police officers to stop any passing motorist and administer a drug test, isn't it fair that all police officers agree to be randomly tested as well?)

The exchange of views on this topic engages another thought. In the history of America there have been previous incidents of police officers working against the system due to their own personal demons or greed. Because police officers have the ability to shield and conceal their unlawful actions and addictions, it's necessary for management to use random drug/alcohol testing on the job. Officers who are performing their duties while under the influence are not only putting their partners in harm's way, but the citizens as well, thus opening up the possibilities of costly litigation.

(Only a minority of citizens claims that it is unfair to mandate that police officers be tested. Their position is that this action is not only an invasion of privacy but that other groups should be targeted before the police officers. That is, school bus drivers, teachers, governmental clerks, welfare recipients, professional sports athletes, Doctors, surgeons, et cetera.)

However, a majority of the hardworking taxpayers who fund the police officers' salaries feel random drug/alcohol testing of police officers is fair. We want to feel secured after all in knowing that the officer who is protecting and serving the citizens is not under the influence of drugs/alcohol, which in return will allow the person who's relying on the officer to trust that officer and show him or her the gratitude that he or she has earned. This should create a win/win situation for all, as these tests would help weed out the bad apples, and increase levels of safety for our citizens, while improving police professionalism, and creating much needed trust. The very foundation of civilization depends on trusted authority figures.

Citizens asking for drug/alcohol testing of all police officers are not an attack on the men and women in blue. The demand enhances respect and trust on all levels of policing. It allows undercover workers an added safety net ensuring their health is monitored and it gives governing bodies the ability to help those in need or discharge those abusing the system and their roles as public servants.

Random drug testing for police officers will boost the trust and integrity in that important agency, while providing a transparent hiring process that would equalize conditions in the work force, while also re-enforcing fairness, and safety for all. Without safety in our communities, there can be no substantial freedoms, nor economic growth, fairness, and safety for all. Without safety in our communities, there can be no substantial freedoms, nor economic growth.

Why would anyone want to fake an orgasm? A 1988 study, conducted by sociologists, revealed that 60% of women occasionally faked having an orgasm. At that time, the study also revealed that only but a few men fake it since they rarely have difficulty climaxing. If they do have trouble, they fake it when they feel they are about to lose their erection, hence fooling their partner

(Today, 25% of men admitted to faking it, some even did it during oral sex. Guys can't falsify ejaculation, but they can fake their moans and movements. Why do they? Like women, they may be tired, stressed or simply having difficulty climaxing, but want their partner to feel good about the experience - www.glamour.com - October 2007)

Another reason why women (and men) choose to pretend is because men consider orgasm proof of their skill in satisfying their partner. And since it's difficult for a man to tell whether their partner climaxed or faked it, most men need to ask, "Did you come?" What is wrong with the truth? Sadly, some people cannot accept the truth. They say they want to hear the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but the truth is they end up splashing and rolling around in self-pity, verbalizing that it's okay when it's not.

Then, there are some women who fake it to get it over and done with because sex is not such a hot deal to them. You do it. It's finished. To some, career goals and ambition take precedence to sex. They feel comfortable pretending and pleasing their partner at the same time. It works for them and their man's ego is intact.

Of course, a man cannot give you an orgasm. He can only provide the stimulation that contributes to arousal by learning what works for you, and by the way he treats you using the techniques that please you. Unfortunately, the problem is that there are men who do not know how to please their mate, particularly those who have spent their lives having sex randomly and seeking self gratification. Because of this immature lifestyle they end up unable to physically discover what is pleasing to their partners. They never grow into mature adults. This is not to excuse making pretending orgasm a trend. Because if he should discover your deception, the relationship will become hostile, and probably terminate.

So the next time you feel yourself beginning to pretend, ask yourself, Why must I pretend? If you feel you have to please him more than yourself, then he is doing something wrong. This is not to say that you have to climax every time you have sex or that you cannot enjoy sex unless you reach orgasm. But, if you never do, or rarely do, you need to consider that maybe your partner just isn’t the right partner for you.
